I’m an advocate for organ donation. When I don’t need the parts anymore, why not give ‘em to someone who does? But, I have never EVER had the desire to donate anything while still living. That is, until Sir William pestered me into it. You see he donates every chance he gets. Loves it! Strange, I know. He especially likes to come home from his Red Cross appointment and announce that he’s supposed to have a “hearty meal” (like I should be standing there with a steak in hand). Honestly, I know I can’t be one upped by a silly boy who won’t ride roller coasters and has never given birth. But a dare is a dare, so I went. When I told the tech it was my first time, he responded: “Was it everything you had hoped for?”
Oh, it was everything I had hoped for – AND MORE!
I was already giddy from knowing in less than 15 minutes they had sucked a pound out of my arm; but as I began to leave, I got another bonus. They prescribed plenty of rest and relaxation. Yessirree! No strenuous work for a day or two. My New Year’s resolution for 2009:
Give blood--as often as possible.

ReplyDeleteI'm a big sissy when it comes to needles (I wouldn't even take epidurals with the first two babies), so I'm impressed.
You're too funny! I'm such a chicken. I was traumatized at 17 when I gave blood at my high school blood drive. They had to call my mom to come get me, very embarassing. You've hit a cord though, I may just muster up my courage and try it again. It's getting harder and harder to keep those pounds at bay, and losing that pound giving blood pretty much sounds like a "sure thing."
