Turns out Sir William has a thing for our ward’s Relief Society President. Normally, that would bother me; but considering that woman happens to be me, I’m gonna let it slide. Yup. Me. With all my flaws and failings, I was recently asked to carry the really heavy notebook for a while. I’ve known for almost 20 years I would serve in this capacity at some point in my life from my Patriarchal Blessing. I was only hoping it would happen when I was really, really old with lots of free time and more life experience. Plus, knowing the blessing hadn’t been fulfilled always made me feel safe on airplanes. I was lamenting that the security was gone, when Sir William chimed in: “Did you ever think that maybe you ARE old!” (Seriously, I don’t think that’s what the Bishop had in mind when he asked Sir William to support me in this effort.)
At any rate, it’s been an interesting few weeks. Many have asked, “How’s it going?”
Well...I don’t think I’ve offended anyone
YET!
I haven’t had to dress any dead people in temple clothing (yes, it’s in the handbook), and I’ve lost a ton of weight due to nerves. So far, so good. Besides, I’m not alone in this journey. I have two wonderful counselors, a fabulous secretary and a devoted assistant. There’s even been a Veep nomination. The other day, Lady May asked if Daddy was the Vice President. After laughing hysterically, I seconded the motion.
Through it all, the principle that’s been reaffirmed again and again is that Heavenly Father is acutely aware of us. He has a very specific plan for you and for me. All he asks is that we submit to His will. With His help, I can do this. I just won’t be taking any more plane rides for a while.
You always make me smile when I read your posts. You are going to be fabulous as R.S. President!! I will support you 110%, if you need me to watch the kids so you can have pres meeting etc. Let me know.
ReplyDeleteWow! It's so fun catching up by reading your blogs. That's so awesome! You're Ward is SO lucky to have you. I don't know if we're ever truly ready for the callings we get at the time we get them, but I think that's the point, part of His plan. I'm sure you're awesome - there's no doubt in my mind... and I'm speaking from experience having served on the board w/you. I know it's much more responsibility and weight to carry the Presidency. Keep smiling as always:0)
