Dear Diary

Recently the chickadees participated in a Christmas project by donating shoe boxes filled with toys, hygiene items, school supplies and candy to be sent to children in developing countries. We felt this was a perfect opportunity to teach them a lesson about gratitude and giving. As we shopped for and assembled these special packages, there was a lot discussion about the children that would receive their gifts. We talked about how lucky we are compared with so many who may not have enough food to eat or parents who love and care for them.

When their packages were finished, they each decided to write a letter to the recipients of their boxes. Lady May chose to write hers inside the front cover of a new diary included in the package. After a few minutes, she presented me with the completed book and exclaimed: I added a safety tip Mom! Fizzing with joy, feeling she had truly helped another human being, Lady May went rogue and urged the child to RUN AWAY FROM HOME?!!

I'm thinking maybe this lesson has gone too far.
